Keeping your tulips standing tall

Introduce fresh tulips from your garden or from the store slowly into the house by putting them in water for an hour or so in a medium temperature place (like the basement or garage).  Then bring them into the main house, add a little fresh water and drop in a copper penny.  Your tulips will normally last a week and will continue to stand tall!
